Foot in the sink???!!@##$$

Headlines: “Universities Install Footbaths to Benefit Muslims, and Not Everyone Is Pleased”
I found this story from a link at Usrah Kakiblog chatterbox which I thought somewhat funny. The intro which reads “When pools of water began accumulating on the floor in some restrooms at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and the sinks pulling away from the walls, the problem was easy to pinpoint.” made me smile.
It is a good thing that the university started to recognize the needs of the Muslim students, however I think we failed to give a good impression to the non-Muslim. I’m not sure how is the situation in the Ladies’ Bathroom, but I found Men’s bathroom was always splashed with waters after Muslim brother did his ablution (some cases not all though). I wonder how do our sisters do their ablution in the bathroom, because I bet they have some other ways rather than putting their foot in the sink.
There are few suggestions that you can avoid putting your foot in the sink
1) Make sure you have wudu before putting on your socks so that you can just wipe on your socks if you need to renew your wudu. Please refer the fiqh rulings according to your own respective Madhabs.
2) If number 1 does not apply to you you can do this. For wudu, you don’t necessarily have to have the water runs on your feet. Instead just wet your hand and wipe your feet without having your feet lifted into the sink, and it still makes the wudu valid.
3) Lastly, make some effort to dry any wet spots using paper towel.
Probably there are some other tips that readers can add.
For us it’s probably not a big deal since we grew up with that custom. However the non-Muslims find it quite bizarre looking at people putting their foot in the sink. I had an experience living in a same apartment with a white American guy. Even though it’s in the bathroom in our apartment where I entitled to do anything I want, but once I knew he didn’t like what I was doing, I started to do my wudu in the bathtub. Not because the bathroom is all wet, it’s just because there is foot in the sink. He was more surprised looking at me putting my foot in the sink rather than me doing sujud and ruku’ during solah.
In Islam, we have a beautiful principle called Ihsan, a perfected character. In anything we do, among the good choices that we have, we should opt for the best.

Haha, teringat waktu PAVE, professor tu pesan lap balik sinki lepas amek wudhu. Siap cerita lagi ada professor lain tergelincir sebab lantai basah.
Now alhamdulillah its better. Depa dah letak heavy-duty wiping cloth kat tandas2 tingkat tiga FGH
Hehe..mcm pernah dengar jer cerita tu. Dasyat gak. Mau nya org terjatuh pastu sampai ajal. Walaupun kebenaran cerita ‘professor tu’ masih tidak dpt dipastikan tp still, dia ada point penting. Eh sekarang FGH ada musolla tak? Ke masih lagi kat tangga?
Belum, tapi inshaAllah harapnya chansellor baru vandy nanti open minded dan bermurah hati sedikit untuk kasi musolla MSA.
